Miler geared toward family fun

If you have not yet made any plans for this Sunday, my suggestion is to check out the third annual Seaside 4Miler. The only 4mile road race on the Seacoast, the race is geared especially toward families with a fun run for children ages 310, with prizes for best costume and a 2.5mile family walk.

Prizes will also be awarded for the best pirate costume during the 4mile run, fastest teacher, fastest PTA member, and businesses with the most participants. It also does not hurt that the race takes place in one of the most beautiful places on the Seacoast, Fort Foster in Kittery Point, which features fantastic beaches and nature trails.

Hosted by the Kittery PTA with proceeds to support educational programs nike australia in the Kittery schools, the race is coorganized by Sybil Carven and Susan Johnson.

"Our goal is to make this an annual healthylifestyle community event that brings all levels, ages and abilities out to run, walk, or volunteer as well as enjoy our beautiful surroundings," said Carven, founder of the Coastal Athletic Association.

Noting she has been running for the past 25plus years and was an Adidas rep for five years before having children, Carven said running is Cheap nike free run now part of her family life between volunteering at, participating in and organizing numerous road races.

"I've tried to incorporate the things I enjoy most about road races into this event, such as a wellmarked course, Nike free austrlia online great postrace party and friendly atmosphere," she said.

Carven said other race perks include free admission to Fort Foster for the day, an ecofriendly cooler bag for the first 100 people and more opportunities for younger runners to win prizes.

"We have broken down our younger age groups into 1013, 1416, 1719, so that the younger crowd is a little bit more evenly matched than a 19yearold running against a 10yearold," she added.

Carven expressed excitement at the fact they are also teaming up with Kittery's Public Works Department and their ZeroWaste Initiative. As a result of this partnership, she said the town will be "a visible and integral part of the festivities during and after the road race with educational programs about ZeroWaste."

"Postrace activities will include games and events for kids focused on recycling, a rainbarrel auction, and multiple ecofriendly vendors will be on hand," she said.

In keeping with the ZeroWaste theme, she said Nike Outlet employees will collect old athletic shoes on race day for the Nike ReuseAShoe program, which recycles wornout athletic shoes and uses them in tracks, basketball courts, playgrounds, apparel and equipment. The day will end with a live performance by the band SoulMate.

As with any road race, or any charity event, corporate support is critical.

"In addition to monetary donations, local businesses will be donating food, water and raffle prizes, including gift certificates to their restaurants," Carven said. "With their sponsorships, they help offset the cost of the road race, allowing us the opportunity to put on a great community event as well as raise money for the schools' healthy kids programs and recycling programs."
